In recent years, interest in hemp has grown significantly, and in 2017, 15 states enacted hemp legislation (Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, North Dakota, Nevada, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming). In addition, Florida, Wisconsin, and Nevada authorized new research or pilot programs for hemp. The market is already growing rapidly.
Experts have speculated that industrial hemp could become a larger economic driver than marijuana, and it appears this speculation could come true sooner rather than later. Just last month, Pennsylvania’s Governor Tom Wolf announced that the state’s industrial hemp program could expand tenfold in 2018.
