Sana Packaging a leading sustainable packaging company in the cannabis industry focused on solving the packaging waste problem by developing innovative solutions using materials designed to help heal the environment, including 100% plant-based hemp packaging and reclaimed ocean plastic.
Cannabiz Media recently spoke with James Eichner and Ron Basak-Smith, the founders of Sana Packaging, to learn more about how their team uses the Cannabiz Media License Database to support its sales, marketing, and business growth initiatives.
Sana Packaging subscribes to the Cannabiz Media License Database for research and business development. Ron explains, “We see the Cannabiz Media License Database as a tool to see who’s out there in the cannabis industry and understand the different players in each new market.”
In addition, the Sana Packaging team leverages the Cannabiz Media platform to implement its outbound marketing and sales strategy. “We’ve been developing our outbound strategy,” shares James, “and we’ve found the Cannabiz Media License Database is the ideal tool and platform for us to execute on an outbound sales strategy because it’s such a comprehensive database.”
As a well-funded startup company in a growth phase, James explains, “The License Database really allows us to drill down on specific customer types and segments within our different customer types. We’re really excited to really leverage the Cannabiz Media platform for this transition that we’re going through as a company from a small startup to a growth stage where we’re out there looking actively for who is the best customer for us.”
For Sana Packaging, the future includes education and growth. “It’s really about an economic model,” says James, “and the way packaging should work in a sustainable long-term system that will help heal the environment. So there’s just so much education that has to happen around that. We always try to lead with education. It’s always about how we can help change the narrative around sustainability, disposable products, and waste recovery. Since the cannabis industry is new and emerging, we have a unique opportunity to try and implement the idea of circular packaging from the ground up.”
Visit the Sana Packaging website, and you’ll learn that no other packaging brand invests more resources into consumer education, industry education, and creating awareness of the need for renewable and regenerative packaging solutions.
“We need to reshape our approach to sustainability,” Ron says. “In the industry and the world, it’s sometimes easy to quantify something as sustainable based on a metric, but we really want to move the conversation more toward the problems we’re trying to solve. We take a holistic approach to the conversation, and where we can provide some data, we do, but we also have these conversations with people about the issues we’re trying to solve.”
In the future, Sana Packaging will continue to focus on growth and solving the problem of packaging waste in the cannabis industry by working with more companies to shift some or all of their packaging to sustainable materials.
“For a lot of companies, they don’t always do a full switch right away,” explains Ron. “Instead, we find one product and see if the packaging switch works for them and if they’re getting value out of it. Often, once they start using sustainable packaging, they see an uptake from customers and how those customers interact with their push for sustainability.”
For Sana Packaging, everything starts with education and a conversation. James shares, “We’re not just here to provide a product. We’re here to help provide a roadmap and a path forward.”
