ePAC Flexible Packaging is a digitally-based flexible packaging company that provides stand up pouches, lay flat pouches, and rollstock packaging solutions to small and mid-sized cannabis and hemp businesses as well as to business of all sizes in a variety of other industries.
Cannabiz Media recently spoke with Ryan Kiley, Director of Market Development at ePAC Flexible Packaging, to learn about how he and his team use the Cannabiz Media License Database to support their sales and business development initiatives.
ePAC Flexible Packaging subscribes to the Cannabiz Media License Database for sales outreach and business development. Ryan explains, “The big benefit with the Cannabiz Media License Database is that I have access to 75,000 people I can market to.”
The sales team uses the License Database for research and sales outreach. “Our sales reps use the Cannabiz Media License Database to find license providers, new licenses, and to learn more about the kind of companies they’re going to cold call or call on,” shares Ryan. “This gives them something to talk about. When you start a conversation with, ‘Hey, congratulations on your new license,’ suddenly, it’s a warm call and not a cold call.”
Ryan also uses the Cannabiz Media License Database to build brand awareness and nurture leads. He says, “I create curated lists of individuals. Sometimes the messaging is more focused to a retailer or a grower, but the goal is to get people interested in me so when it comes time to think about packaging, they know the name ePAC. They know they have someone they can trust to call to get their packaging.”
ePAC Flexible Packaging has been opening new facilities in the United States and in international locations. When asked what’s on the horizon for his company, Ryan said, “I think it’s just more. It’s wherever the business takes us. I think the next big frontier is Western Europe.”
One area that ePAC Flexible Packaging will focus on in the future is expanding its connected packaging solutions that enable digital tracking of products. “I can give a consumer confidence by creating a digital identity on the pouch itself,” shares Ryan. That digital identity confirms things like ingredients, origin, and more. “We’ve taken a really powerful platform, and we’ve made it accessible to small and medium businesses,” says Ryan.
In the future, Ryan hopes this technology will go even further by tracking the next steps after a product is purchased by a consumer to how it’s disposed of, recycled, and reused in a circular economy. He explains, “We realize that we’re a plastics company, so we’re part of the problem, but we want to be part of the solution too. We’re completely committed to helping retrieve, reuse, and repurpose as much of the stuff that we create as humanly possible.
“80% of the stuff you put in your curbside recycling bin ends up in a landfill, even though you designated it as a recyclable plastic. I think we can make a dent in that. If people scan the package before they put it in the recycling bin, suddenly, that product has a circular life that a company can track and report.”
